myPlayLife has its own life story, with the original idea springing into the minds of Ben Stanton and Lewis Gleave back in late September 2014.
Music was a big inspiration in its creation; the feeling you get when you hear a favourite song. It can instantly change your mood, bringing life to the music through certain feelings and emotions that are connected. Realising how this can have a significant impact on your mind and body resulted in the inspiration of using this to help people with dementia and other mental health conditions. This is how the initial idea of creating a reminiscence therapy app came around.
Another big influence is social isolation; this subject, along with mental health, are very personal to both Ben and Lewis, having had to deal with their own individual experiences. They wanted to make a difference and help others who have dealt with similar issues to their own. It can be hard in people’s busy lives to keep in contact or make regular visits to close friends and family, so myPlayLife was created to make it easier…without having to share publicly through a social network, whilst being able to document your very own or someone else’s life story more easily.
Meet The Team
Hello, I’m Lewis Gleave, (left) I’m 26. I have lived in West Sussex my whole life; my first working experience was in a care home at the age of 11. Since the age of 16 I have worked in the construction industry, previously starting my own carpentry business and working on BIM Software. Naturally, I have found myself back working in the care sector where I feel most comfortable. I’ve always loved spending time outdoors and having a drink with my Grandad.
Due to my own personal experiences with mental health, I have learnt that the most important thing in your mind is knowing someone cares for you, and that you can love yourself enough to get over those voices that haunt us all. My biggest fear is, and always will be, loneliness. We are so busy looking after our bodies, that we often forget to look after our mind.
Hi guys, I’m Ben, (right) I’m 27. I have always loved art, and now have a degree in Graphic Design. Whilst at university, me and several close friends founded a music label called Concrete Music. I have also lived in West Sussex my whole life, having grown up surrounded by my lovely brothers. I have known Lewis since I was 15.
My Grandma passed away from paraneoplastic syndrome, showing similar symptoms to dementia. This led to my Grandad committing suicide due to heartbreak. Mental health is a subject that is very personal to me, and I have been keen to link my musical interest into ways to provide help for the care industry.
